Kabetogama fishing report, ice update and outdoors report.  12/1/2019 CLOSE CALL! Fortunately, the recent winter storm that dumped almost two feet of snow to our south gave us the best gift this holiday season so far.  No snow! YES, of course we all LOVE snow in the Northland, just not quite yet! Kabetogama lake was spared and is now making good ice. Spear fishing has been great, and we look to be on track for some early season hard water angling on the main lake in the not too distant future.  Ice thickness varies dramatically throughout the area so be [...]

Kab area fishing, hunting and outdoors report.

Kab area fishing, hunting and outdoors report.   HUNTERS SUPPER THIS SAT NOV 9th. Details below! Winter here to stay? A couple inches of fresh snow on the ground and skim ice starting to form on most bays and shorelines would indicate we are. Tom Cod is almost completely froze and it looks to stay that way. Smaller area lakes are almost ice covered if not already. The main basin on Kab is open but that is usually the last to freeze. With the cold nights and temps not getting above freezing in the foreseeable future, we may have an [...]

Kabetogama area fishing report 9/23/2019 As we make our way through the last week of September, a more stable weather pattern has emerged which in turn has the fish in a more fall like pattern. With the feel of Fall now definitely in the air, fishing has taken a turn for the better. Start hitting up your traditional fall haunts for all species, especially crappies which have more defined target areas on Kab. As you read the guide reports, you will see more consistent patterns taking place. Around the area, cabins are starting to shut down for the cold months [...]

Kab Fishing and Outdoors Report 8/26/2019

Kab Fishing and Outdoors Report 8/26/2019 A little quieter around the lake this past week mostly due to the weather but the fish are there if you can get past the rain and wind. As water temperatures have dropped a good 10 degrees over the past week fishing has changed as well. Another major bug hatch occurred late last week and seems to be quite persistent. As you read the guide reports below you will see there is a fall transition in place. Around the area, most are starting to think fall as temps have struggled to get into the [...]

Kab area fishing and outdoor activities report. August 19, 2019 This past week the full moon put on quite a display. Clear cool nights have water temps dropping a little and fall seems to be making an early arrival. Most pelicans have left the lake which seems a bit early and hummingbirds are hitting feeders and flowers hard in preparation for fall migration. Canada geese are on the wing and ducklings are not so small anymore. It seems to indicate an early Fall, but Mother Nature can be unpredictable! Fishing is still fantastic as you can tell by reading the [...]

Kab area fishing and outdoors report. August 13, 2019 A touch of fall has been in the air lately with perfectly warm days and cool nights. Campfires are dancing around the lake and everyone seems to be taking advantage of what little bit of summer we have left. The lake seems a little quieter this week, but the fishing has been red hot for those dropping a line in the water. Guide reports below are a testament to just how good it has been! You can never go wrong hooking up with any of the guides on the lake to [...]

Kab area fishing and outdoors report. August 5, 2019 The weather has been hot and so has the fishing. With no major bug hatches occurring fish are being caught with regularity throughout Kab with the best fishing being around reefs using live bait rigs. As you read the guide reports below you will see it continues to be a great fishing season! Other activities around Kab and Voyageurs National Park are in full swing. The northern lights have been making an appearance and with a new moon turning into it’s first quarter it may not be necessary to stay up [...]

Kab area fishing and outdoors report. July 23, 2019 Life is grand on Kab! Summer is in full swing and we have a beautiful stretch of weather in store this week. Water skiers, tubers and just boats cruising the lake are equal to the number of fishermen and women out and about. There have been more sailboats out as well which is a beautiful sight to see. When you hit the water be aware that canoe and kayak activity is peaking so keep a safe distance to allow them to enjoy a relaxing paddle. Fishing continues to be good for [...]

Kab area fishing and outdoors report. July 15, 2019 Summer heat! The sun is out and water is warm! Blueberries and raspberries are starting to ripen. If you go searching, try the lake islands first as they will be first to come in. We have gone through our first major Mayfly hatch here on Kab so fishing should take a turn for the better. The next challenge is the abundance of forage we now have to compete with as this year’s minnows are out there in force. Water temps have risen into the high 70’s which will send fish looking [...]

Kab area fishing and outdoors report. July 9, 2019 Well, the 4th of July has come and gone, and it doesn’t seem that long ago we were all praying for summer to get here and now we’ve turned the corner already. The lake was extremely active with all kinds of boaters this past week and finally the heavy smoke coming in from Canada has cleared out. Maybe the long winter has something to do with it, but I can’t believe we are already into the second week of July! It feels like summer is flying by! Enough with the Debbie [...]
