Kab area fishing and outdoors report. August 13, 2019

A touch of fall has been in the air lately with perfectly warm days and cool nights. Campfires are dancing around the lake and everyone seems to be taking advantage of what little bit of summer we have left. The lake seems a little quieter this week, but the fishing has been red hot for those dropping a line in the water. Guide reports below are a testament to just how good it has been! You can never go wrong hooking up with any of the guides on the lake to help you out with some tips on areas to fish and what techniques to use. Their knowledge can be invaluable as walleyes transition into different stages moving towards fall.

In less than a week most Voyageur Park tours will be winding down so take advantage of what they have to offer. Stop into any of the Park visitor centers to plan your trip. Last chance to play bingo at the town hall will be this Thursday, August 15.
Here at Gateway, we continue to have our daily lunch specials as well as fresh made take and bake pizzas. You can call ahead and have one made for you to take back to the cabin or we will cook them for you as well! We have some great new clothes coming in and a fresh selection of this years biggest hit, Sand Bay Jewelry with a dab of Kabetogama sand in each piece. We also have an updated selection of St Croix rods and a good selection of reels to pair it up with that won’t break the bank. As always, don’t forget the ice cream as you browse around!

We are having our annual Kabetogama community garage sale with food specials on Labor Day weekend. If you would like to be on the map, stop into Gateway and sign up! Dates are Friday August 30th and Saturday August 31st from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Get out and enjoy summer while you can as Fall is just around the corner.

Possibly the best week in fishing I’ve experienced, reefs or weed line, shallow on top or deeper on the bottom it didn’t matter. Fish are on a feeding frenzy. Lindy & leeches or jig & minnow. Stop by Gateway and pick up some shiners. Walleye frenzy. Trent

Had another great week on Kabetogama. I spent most of the week in 24-30′ of water fishing live bait rigs with leeches. Mid lake humps and island points still producing. Shallow 9-12′ also was good some days as well with either live bait rigs and leeches or spinners with crawlers. It’s been a great summer on KAB and looking forward to a great fall! See you on the water, Travis Carlson

This week on Kabetogama fishing has continued to produce! We are seeing large walleyes in deeper water (28-32′) with jig and minnow. Jigging raps are working well also. Pitching small jigs with minnows in 8-12′ is the way to go when your more interested in eating size fish. A consistent perch bite continues on top of the reefs. Tim Snyder

This week we finally saw more wind and a taste of fall weather with a small cold front that slowed fishing for a day. But literally one day! With the wind we had I found lots of great eater fish in 8-12′ weed lines and mud bottom areas! I also spent a lot of time on namakan the past 2 days and did very well. 28-32′ live bait Lindy was best tipped with leech or crawlers.
Have a great week! Dominic Ruis
