Kabetogama area fishing, ice conditions and snowmobile trail report. 2/10/20
Fishing inconsistent, snowmobile, ski and snowshoe trails all in excellent shape!
As we close in on Valentine’s Day and Presidents weekend the Northland is excellent shape if you are looking for a variety of activities.
Fishing has been inconsistent at best with similar results throughout the area. Recently, downsizing your lure and bait has been working well with the recent cold front. Keeping your presentation within 2 inches off the bottom has been productive. It’s a trial and error method right now. If you are marking fish but they aren’t there for the taking, switching lures and presentation until you find the right combo is key. Those with cameras down are seeing good fish come in, take a look and pass on by. It can be frustrating but eventually you will find the right presentation. Tip ups with a sucker minnow has been producing bigger fish. Again, keep your bait within 2-4 inches off the bottom.
Kevin Grossheim from the National Park Service reports the ice road and sledding hill on Kabetogama are open and seeing lots of activity. No reported issues accessing these areas. It’s a great way to spend the afternoon! Have a bonfire, smores and take a ride down the hill!
Snowmobile trails on and off the lake are in excellent shape. Tim Watson, trail administrator, said the trails off the lake will be groomed every day beginning Tuesday through the weekend. On the lake trail there is still significant slush, but a crust has formed over it making for some excellent off trail riding!
